So with so many readers in the US I thought a stitch your own Red White and Blue fabric tute could come in handy for 4th of July.
Not sure how many people have a stash of medal ribbons and will get use out of this tute but for arguments sake I'm assuming you are all former track stars ;)
What you'll need:
Handful of Medal Ribbons in the same colours (not all are Red, White & Blue obv)
Sewing Machine that can zigzag stitch
Interfacing
Scissors
1. Grab a handful of your medal stash, cut off the glued part or unpick the stitched part of each medal to make a continuous piece of ribbon.
2. The settings I used to stitch the ribbons together, that's stitch length of 1.0 and width wise we're talking 3.0. Hope this makes sense on your machines too. Basically a short and narrow zigzag stitch is what you're looking for.
3. Stick to similar shades of blues and Reds and line up Blue against Blue and Red against Red, using a zigzag stitch gently push the white edges together as you stitch, overlapping a little is fine, just don't leave any gaps between the ribbons.
4. Just keep stitching and watch it grow
and grow.
Continue for as many ribbons as you have, if you end up with a long skinny piece of fabric then cut in half and join these two pieces together side by side.
Now you have your fabric, to add stability iron on some fusible interfacing, this is going to fray quite a bit at raw edges so make sure you conceal all (raw) edges with bias tape just to be safe.
Not sure what you can make? get creative, it's just fabric, the Crochet hook roll at the top took a piece the size of a sheet of printer paper so you don't need much to make something cute.
